Transfer Students

If you've previously attended college, or if you are planning to take the first two years of your bachelor's degree at Southern State and then transfer to a four-year college, or perhaps you're a high school student who has earned college credit by participating in a Post Secondary Enrollment Option (PSEO), Tech Prep or College in the Classroom program, then you're in the right place.

Transfer to Southern State

To successfully transfer to Southern State from another college, follow these steps!

Step 1 – Complete an Application for Admission


  • Spring term begins January 13, 2025

  • Select this application for the Summer or Fall 2025 terms. Summer and Fall applications will be processed after January 13, 2025.

There is no fee or deadline to submit the application for admission.

Step 2 – Request Transcripts

Have your official transcripts sent to the Records Office.

Step 3 – Meet with an Advisor

Make an appointment with an Advisor to make sure your courses meet our transfer requirements and that you get credit for the classes you’ve already taken.

Credit Transfer Policy

a. Students previously attending an accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation may transfer courses as follows:

  • Courses taken prior to Autumn 2005 with a grade of "C minus" or above
  • Courses taken Autumn 2005 or later with a grade of "D" or above

b. Applicants who have earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from an Ohio public college with a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 and have completed Ohio Transfer 36 will receive transfer credit for all college level courses which they have passed.

c. A student wishing to transfer to Southern State should be in good standing from the last college of attendance and transfer students must comply with all admission procedures.

Transfer from Southern State

Planning to transfer from Southern State to another institution after taking certain courses or obtaining your Associate degree? These steps should help!

Step 1 – Meet with an Advisor

Communicating with an advisor from the college or university you hope to attend is crucial. Make an appointment with the advisor early in your academic career to ensure the best possible course selection. It’s also a good idea to take a Southern State Catalog and Class Schedule to that visit.

Step 2 – Request Southern State Transcript

Official transcripts are the only means by which credit is transferred from college to college.

Step 3 – Comply with Ohio Transfer 36

Familiarize yourself with Ohio Transfer 36 which facilitates the transfer of students in Ohio's public colleges and universities.
