Welcome to Human Biology I, The lecture portion of this course is online, while the Lab portion is face-to-face.

Students enrolling in this course must adhere to the following:

• 1. Students may purchase a physical textbook or use the E-text provided by the Publisher which is included in Inclusive Access, which includes Pearson's MyLab and Mastering Access. Students are charged for the cost of the E-text and the Publisher鈥檚 courseware at the time of registration with Inclusive Access (BIOL 1040 is $95). If you already have the textbook with Pearson's MyLab and Mastering Access Code, you can opt out of the Inclusive Access program; for example, if you purchased the materials for BIOL 1040 Fall semester and it included a 2-semester access, you would not need to pay for it again this semester. ** There is also a temporary free 14-day access to get started with Pearson's MyLab and Mastering. Please visit the Bookstore for purchase options. CCP students should notify their high school ASAP that a Mastering Access Code IS REQUIRED.

Be self-disciplined and highly motivated to meet the demands/challenges of fast-paced online learning and to keep up with weekly assignments, quizzes, etc. (BE ADVISED: this course has a no extension, no make-up exam, no extra-credit policy). This course requires a fair amount of writing, critical analysis, and problem solving.
• 4. Be able to upload, download, and attach documents; be able to open Adobe PDFs, Microsoft Word Documents, and PowerPoint presentations (must have Microsoft PowerPoint installed) and view and listen to videos from your computer, within Canvas.
• 5. Must be able to answer weekly discussion questions, complete projects and perform virtual lab activities, take quizzes, and exams within Pearson's MyLab and Mastering.
• 6. Be comfortable with Canvas tools before classes begin. It is highly recommended that students take Canvas Orientation CRDW 1100 prior to the beginning of the semester. For more information, contact itech@sscc.edu
• 7. Have reliable internet service, preferably DSL or cable, and be able to use Chrome as your default browser for Canvas and Pearson. Some activities can be completed on a smart phone, but a computer/laptop is required for most.
